Graphtex is proud to announce that it will design, develop, and manufacture active RFID devices under a licensing agreement with Savi Technology, Inc., of Mountain View, CA. Savi Technology, Inc., is a Lockheed Martin company.
Active RFID tags employ a dedicated power source to facilitate identification and reprogramming of the RFID tag by the reader. This allows reader-tag recognition to take place even when the reader and tag are several miles apart, unlike Passive RFID, which usually has an effective range of several meters. Active RFID systems are typically employed to track the land-based movements of palletized unit loads, cargo containers, and transport vehicles. This type of enterprise-wide inventory tracking has vast potential for increasing efficiency and decreasing cost on a global scale. Applications and industries using active RFID technology include container tracking, pharmaceutical dispensing and asset management.
In addition, the importance of monitoring the “chain of custody” in shipping containers in an age of terrorism can’t be overstated. For this reason, among others, the Department of Defense has committed to using Savi Technology’s proprietary knowledge to include active RFID as a tool for advancing our national security.
Graphtex has supplied the defense, medical, pharmaceutical, aerospace industries with membrane switches, nameplates, and labels and overlays for over 35 years. With systems in place to design, develop, and integrate active RFID tags and devices within military specifications, we look forward to progressing in our partnership with SAVI Technology, Inc., and to contributing to the active RFID marketplace.
